The Namibia Coast Conservation and Management (NACOMA) Project brings the country one step closer to forming the 8th largest protected area in the world and the largest in Africa.
This comes after the Namibian Coast Conservation and Management (NACOMA) Project’s announcement that the central coastal area might be proclaimed as a protected area as early as next year.
If proclaimed, the West Coast Recreation Area between Sandwich Harbour and the Ugab river, will form part of the greater Namib Skeleton Coast National Park, which will also include the Skeleton Coast, Namib Naukluft Park and the Sperrgebiet National Park.

Zod Braby, coordinator of NACOMA, said that a management plan has been developed already and that further consultation is taking place with the public to establish whether ‘Namib National Park’ is an appropriate name for the central coastal area. He said the Ministry of Environment and Tourism will be proposing the names of both the Namib National Park and Namib Skeleton Coast National Park to Cabinet and that it would be good to include public support and comments in the proposal.
The Namib Skeleton Coast National Park covers an area of 107 540 square kilometres and stretches along the coastline of 1570 kilometres and extends inland from as narrow as 25 kilometres in the north to180 kilometres in the Namib Naukluft area.

The national park also shares common borders with other conservation areas including, Ais-Ais/Fish River Canyon National Park and freehold conservancies as well as private conservation areas. Namib Skeleton Coast National Park is also linked to the Iona National Park in Angola and Richtersveld in South Africa.

Now imagine for a moment – what a once in a lifetime experience it would be for the kids and the parents to plan and go on a Namibia Family Holiday to one of the oldest and biggest animal kingdoms in Africa, namely the Etosha National park. The 22,275km2 Etosha National Park created in 1907 is larger than the combined size of the benelux countries of Holland, Belgium and Luxembourg.

The public only have access to a third of the park located around  the dry lake (pan) formed around 5million years ago. The pan fills up during the rainy season and attracts thousands of bird species including the red white and black coloured flamingoes. The Etosha Park is home to the African Big Five, i.e. the Lion, Elephant, the leopard, the Buffalo and the Rhino and as well as hundred of antelope species of all sizes.Wildlife in namibia have adjusted to extremely diverese climatic conditions like the wet Caprivi Game Park, the seasonally dry Etosha Park,  the arid conditions of Damaraland, the Skeleton Coast, the Waterberg Plateau and the extremely arid south where the Desert horses have biologically mutated to adjust to those conditions.

Those scared of an African Family Holiday with kids because of health risks can rest assured because Namibia Africa is a malaria free zone and has one of the most rigorous veterinary controls because of its export of best quality naturally reared beef to Europe and North America.

Namibia is an extremely child and family friendly holiday destination as many hospitality operators offer baby sitting, special kiddies meals and activities focused around kids.

The family holiday season coincides with the northern hemisphere winter and summer holiday breaks i.e. from mid july to mid September period as well as the year-end Christmas and new year holidays when families choose to enjoy shared experiences.
