In the Top Insider Travel Secrets overview we mentioned understanding and leveraging destination tourism seasons as one of the five keys to realize dream of value for money holidays. The seasons of each tourism destination depends on the fluctuating patterns of the demand for travel and accommodation services throughout the year.
Understandably prices are highest during the time of the year when demand is the highest and vice versa. Usually, the high season periods coincide with local and international public holidays as well as with the local and international school vacations in the northern hemisphere as well as in South Africa – the period during chosen by families to enjoy shared holiday experiences to nurture closer family bonds.
It does therefore not make sense to expect shoe string holiday fares during the high season periods when the local hospitality sector looks forward to and generally receives full fare payments in order to make-up for loss of income during the low season periods because of the accentuated seasonality of demand. You can by contrast have a holiday of a lifetime just before the july to September peak season rush when the European and American tourists descend on Namibia and the December to January period when South African tourist camping settlements mushroom along the entire coastline. If this what they associate with nothing happens in June in Namibia then I would love to take holidays to Namibia only during February to June as well as September to November when as they say nothing happens, so that I can have the dolphins, the seals and the wide open spaces of the dunes all to myself.
The aim of the government, Air Namibia, the national airline, the Namibia Tourism Board and the Namibian Hospitality industry is to target and attract segments of the international travel market which demonstrate a strong year round travel demand.
Independent practitioners, young professionals, empty nesters, incentive travellers or the baby boomer generation of retired couples who enjoy the luxury of the choice over the period of the year when they take vacation can benefit from substantial reductions on travel and accommodation by choosing the off-season periods.
Travel and accommodation demand for destination Namibia is highest during the summer and winter holiday season in the northern hemisphere (July/September and December/January) as well as during the Namibia/South African Holiday season periods indicaded below. Accommodation on short notice is very difficult to have these periods and requires advance bookings many many months ahead of the intended arrival date. These are the Namibia Peak Season periods:
April 25th – May 25th Namibia/South Africa School Holidays
July 15th – September 30th Northern Hemisphere Summer Holidays
December 5th – January 15th Namibia/South Africa School Holidays
